The Memorial Amateur Championship in conjunction with Empire Golf and the County of Sacramento are once again promoting a fundraiser to benefit veterans and their families. The fundraiser takes the form of a one-day event held the Friday before the Memorial Amateur competition.
The format for the one-day event is an “Am-Am” (in contrast to the traditional “Pro-Am” held during major PGA events).
100% of the proceeds after golf expenses and prizes will go directly to this year’s designated charity, Veterans’ Golf Program, created by local resident Joe Neff.
Format
Tournament will be played in 5-somes with 4-person team Scramble format and Memorial Amateur contestant playing his/her own ball.
Procedure
The 4-person Scramble team features teams of four players along with their competitor competing against one another.
In this format, each Scramble team’s players hit from the White teemarkers, then the Scramble team members choose the best of the four shots for the next shot. All team members then play the second shot from that location within one club length, and again choose the best shot. Play continues in this manner until the hole is completed. The team then records its score and maintains that format for all 18 holes.
Scramble players may hole-out for a maximum score even though other players may have attempts at a lower score.
There is no minimum drive requirement from each Scramble team player. In addition, there are no “mulligans” permitted under any circumstances.
The Memorial Amateur contestant will play one ball from the Gold teemarkers and play as an individual player. He must hole-out on each hole (no “gimmes”).
The combined scores of the Scramble team and the Contestant will determine the team gross score. Awards will be payed to the low three teams and a medalist contestant.
Local Rule
Rules 18-2, 18-3 and 20-1 are modified as follows: When a player’s ball lies on the putting green, there is no penalty if the ball or ball-marker is accidentally moved by the player, his partner, his opponent, or any of their caddies or equipment. This Local Rule applies only when the player’s ball or ball-marker lies on the putting green and any movement is accidental.
Note: If it is determined that a player’s ball on the putting green was moved as a result of wind, water or some other natural cause such as the effects of gravity, the ball must be played as it lies from its new location. A ball-marker moved in such circumstances is replaced.
